0. INTRODUCTION
StepAhead Driving School (“the school”, “we”, “our”, “us”) provides driving education services through both in-person instruction and our newly updated digital platform:

All students must make payment, create and maintain an active digital account to access lessons, schedules, announcements, and training materials. Failure to register may result in delayed lessons or limited-service access.
1. TRANSITION TO DIGITAL PLATFORM
Effective 1st January 2026, StepAhead Driving School has transitioned to a fully integrated digital system that includes:
- Online student registration
- Digital class scheduling
- Access to theory materials
- Payment tracking
- Instructor assignment
- Attendance management
- Test preparation support
- Digital communication & announcements
2. TERMS OF SERVICE
By enrolling in any StepAhead Driving School program, students agree to comply with these Terms & Conditions.
3. PRIVACY POLICY
3.1 Personal Data Collected
We collect personal information necessary to deliver our services, including:
- Name, age, and student ID (where applicable)
- Phone number and email
- ECOWAS card/learner’s permit
- Payment information
- Class attendance and progress reports
3.2 Data Sharing
Student information is shared only with:
- DVLA (where required by law)
- Ghana Drive system (where required)
We do not share data with third-party marketers.
4. ENROLLMENT & PAYMENT
4.1 Payment Process
Payments are processed securely through Cal Pay, supporting:
- MasterCard
- VISA
- Debit cards
- Mobile Money
Receipts are issued electronically via SMS.
4.2 Payment Requirements
- Full payment is required before the DVLA biometric.
- Late payment will result in lessons being paused until payment is received.
- All fees paid are non-refundable.
- Prices apply nationwide and are subject to annual review.
4.3 Tertiary Student Requirement
Tertiary students registering under any tertiary Package must present a valid tertiary student ID.
Failure to provide a valid ID will result in reassignment to the General package.
5. PRICING STRUCTURE
5.1 Pricing Components
All packages include (where applicable):
- DVLA Biometric Fee standard (For premium service, an additional fee of GHS 300.00 will apply)
- DVLA Eye Test Fee
- Ghana Drive Slot Fee
- Theory: 30% of the training portion
- Practical: 70% of the training portion
- Number of practical lessons
- Cost per practical lesson
- Manual & automatic options
Each practical lesson = 1 hour, with a 10-minute buffer.
6. STUDENT REQUIREMENTS
6.1 Mandatory Identification
Students must hold a valid:
- ECOWAS card
- Learner’s permit
- Or provisional license
6.2 Fitness & Sobriety
Students must be physically and mentally fit and must not:
- Consume alcohol before lessons
- Use drugs or illegal substances
6.3 Dress Code
Appropriate buckled footwear is required.
No slippers allowed.
6.4 DVLA Legal Requirements
To successfully acquire a DVLA driver’s license in Ghana, students should make it a priority to familiarize themselves with and fulfil all the necessary DVLA requirements. Here’s a helpful checklist to guide you through the process.
6.4.1 Eligibility Check
✔ Applicant is 18 years or older (Private License)
✔ Applicant is 21 years or older (Commercial License)
✔ Applicant can read and write (English or approved local language)
✔ Applicant is mentally and physically fit to drive
6.4.2 Required Documents (Before Application)
✔ Ghana Card (mandatory)
✔ Birth Certificate or Age Declaration Affidavit
✔ Educational Certificate (BECE / WASSCE / Tertiary / Adult Education proof)
✔ Passport-sized photographs (if requested by DVLA office)
✔ Medical / Eye Test Report from DVLA-approved facility
⚠️ Vision (eye) test is mandatory for issuance and renewal.
6.4.3 Learner’s License Stage
✔ Purchase DVLA Learner License Application Form
✔ Complete medical & eye examination
✔ Submit documents at the DVLA office
✔ Obtain Learner’s License Permit
📌 Learner must:
- Be accompanied by a licensed driver
- Display “L” sign on vehicle
- Drive only within permitted conditions and roads
6.4.4 Driving School Training (Mandatory)
✔ Enroll in a DVLA-recognized driving school
✔ Complete theory training, including:
- Highway Code
- Road signs & markings
- Road safety rules
- Basic vehicle maintenance
✔ Complete practical driving lessons, including:
- Steering & control
- Parking & reversing
- Hill start
- Road driving & traffic handling
- Emergency braking
6.4.5 DVLA Theory Examination
✔ Book DVLA Computer-Based Theory Test
✔ Pass exam covering:
- Traffic laws
- Road signs
- Highway Code
- Safety rules
❌ Failure → Re-sit required (Attracts extra fee payments made through the DVLA payment portal.)
✅ Pass → Proceed to road sign and practical test
6.4.6 DVLA Practical Driving Test
✔ Book In-Traffic Practical Test
✔ Assessment includes:
- Vehicle control
- Observation & signaling
- Parking & maneuvering
- Road discipline
- Safety awareness
❌ Failure → Re-sit required (Attracts extra fee payments made through the DVLA payment portal.)
✅ Pass → Eligible for full license
6.4.7 License Issuance
✔ Submit passed test results
✔ Capture biometric data (photo & fingerprints)
✔ Pay applicable DVLA fees
✔ Receive Temporary License Slip
✔ Collect Smart Driver’s License Card when ready
6.4.8 Special Categories (If Applicable)
✔ Commercial License – higher age requirement + stricter testing
✔ Foreign License Conversion – original license + residence/work permit
✔ Tertiary Students – valid student ID required for student packages
6.4.9 Important Legal Notes
⚠️ Driving without a valid license is illegal
⚠️ Using middlemen (“goro boys”) is criminal
⚠️ False documents lead to disqualification & prosecution
⚠️ An eye test is required for renewals and upgrades
6.4.10 Renewal & Upgrading
✔ Eye test required
✔ Medical clearance (where applicable)
✔ Old license presented
✔ Fees paid before expiry to avoid penalties
6.5 Attendance
Students must attend lessons on time and fully participate in training.
7. STUDENT CONDUCT
Students must behave respectfully toward instructors, staff, and colleagues.
The following are prohibited:
- Lateness beyond 10 minutes without notice
- Rude, vulgar, or disruptive behaviour
- Drunkenness or alcohol use
- Smoking in classrooms or vehicles
- Phone use, sleeping, or inattentiveness during lessons
- Misuse of the digital portal
8. LESSON SCHEDULING
8.1 Theory Sessions
- Max 10 students per class
- Delivered in-person or online
- Attendance is tracked digitally
8.2 Practical Lessons
- 1 hour per session
- 10-minute buffer
- Instructor may vary based on availability
- Attendance is tracked digitally
8.3 Lesson Cancellations & Penalties
- Students must give at least 2 hours notice via the official WhatsApp page.
• Failure to provide notice counts as a No-Show.
• No-Show Penalty: A ₵20 penalty applies if a student fails to show up for a booked lesson without prior notice (If someone doesn’t show up for their appointment, the penalty will be taken from the fees they’ve already paid until they settle the penalty payment.).
• Students who miss lessons may be temporarily removed from future schedules until confirmation is provided. - Lessons may be rescheduled for:
- Weather conditions
- Vehicle maintenance
- Instructor unavailability
9. SCHOOL’S RESPONSIBILITIES
StepAhead Driving School will:
• Provide licensed, trained, professional instructors
• Maintain all training vehicles in safe and roadworthy condition
• Ensure full compliance with DVLA guidelines
• Deliver all mandatory theory modules
• Issue certificates only when all requirements are completed
⛔ The school does NOT guarantee students will pass the DVLA test.
10. DIGITAL PLATFORM POLICY
All students must:
- Protect their login credentials
- Regularly check the portal for updates
- Use the platform only for official school activities
- Do not share, screenshot, or distribute copyrighted materials without permission
Misuse of the platform may lead to account suspension.
11. DVLA TEST PREPARATION & RESPONSIBILITY
11.1 Success on the Test Cannot Be Guaranteed
The school prepares students through revision, but does not guarantee test success.
11.2 Student Responsibilities
Students must:
- Book their driving tests
- Meet all DVLA requirements
11.3 School Assistance
We can assist with test bookings, but we do not guarantee specific dates. To successfully book your DVLA test, please visit https://www.dvlawrittentest.com/Operations/FreshTestSchedule (for standard license only).
11.4 License Collection
Applicants must pick up their driver’s license from the DVLA branch that served them.
12. LIABILITY
The school is not responsible for:
- Loss or damage to personal items
- Injury or accidents caused by student negligence
- Missed lessons due to student absenteeism or technical issues outside our control
The school will be liable only for damages caused by proven staff negligence.
13. CHANGES TO TERMS & CONDITIONS
These terms may be updated periodically. Updates will appear on:
- StepAhead website
- The StepAhead Admin Dashboard
- WhatsApp communication channels
Continued use of our services constitutes acceptance of revised terms.
